Slovnaft Case.

Updated: Dec 14, 2020

InsightOut SK was hired by Exalt Interactive Kft for Slovnaft to evaluate product implementation, testing and consumer ethnography.

Case:

InsightOut SK was hired to test the effectiveness of a training program for new employees preparing to work in a gas station and to evaluate the impact of the training program on their first weeks in employment.

Well trained workers would face fewer difficulties and obstacles and remain with the company for longer periods.

Methods:

Our team used both traditional data collecting techniques such as interviews and questionnaires, and some non-traditional data collection methods such as observation and field ethnography. We observed the employees’ workstations and inter-worker means of communication.

Findings.

Our research showed that a successful training session involved good communication methods, and an experienced trainer who was not linked to an initial training program.

The initial electronic training program had proved ineffective and was consistently abandoned by new workers because use of electronic devices was prohibited at gas stations.

As a result, the electronic training program and the technical online manual were not accessible. Workers had to find other methods of communication.

Our theory: Everyone experiences similar emotions, obstacles and difficulties during the first days in a new job. However, if you have a good mentor who leads you through the first weeks of employment, you are more likely to develop a positive attitude and to stay at the company for an extended period.

Suggestions and implementation:

Based on our recommendations, the training program was transferred onto small printed cards. Each workstation was provided with boards containing specific information cards for that station. Subsequently, workers were also allowed to personalise their workstations with personal belongings such as family photographs.
